Canada’s biggest music party is set to begin this Sunday when the iHeartRadio 2017 MuchMusic Video Awards will air from Queen Street in Toronto. From the red carpet to the main presentations, Real Style’s got you covered in everything you need to know about the event.

While the red carpet isn’t set to air on TV until 8 pm Sunday night, the celebrities actually start arriving around 6:30. If years past are any indication, you really need to expect the unexpected, because some of the musicians will do anything to grab attention. From arriving in a food truck, to wearing swimwear, we’ve really seen everything in the past, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be something new happening this year. It’s the kick-off to the biggest party in Canada after all.

We’ve seen all sorts of hosts in MMVAs past, from Ed Sheeran, to LMFAO to PSY, so this year’s hosts Alessia Cara Joe Jonas have some awfully big shoes to fill. Jonas will help the newcomer Cara though, as he hosted the event back in 2009 with his brothers. For Cara it’s an even bigger deal, as the 20 year old is from the Toronto area city of Brampton.

The performers this year might simply be the MMVAs best yet. You can expect to see Lorde, Imagine Dragons, Iggy Azalea, DNCE, Julia Michaels, Jazz Cartier, Niall Horan, Post Malone, Arkells, Camila Cabello, Kardinal Offishall and Jessie Reyez all take the stage during the broadcast. There will surely be a lot of highlights afterwards.

It’s not just the performers people are there to see though. It’s also the presenters. From musicians like Hedley,  Lights, Carly Rae Jepsen and Serena Ryder, to actresses like Shay Mitchell, Shenae Grimes-Beech and Tatiana Maslany, as well as Youtube stars such as Jus Reign and Lilly Singh, the MMVAs bring out some of the biggest celebrity names going today.

And of course there are the awards themselves that need to be handed out. While there are 19 different categories this year, not all of them will be handed out during the broadcast. Fan favourites such as Justin Bieber, Drake, The Weeknd and Shawn Mendes all find themselves nominated in several categories, while international favourites such as Lorde, Beyonce and Lady Gaga also find themselves with a nomination or two.

While we can’t actually say what surprises you can expect at this years awards, you can expect them to happen. In the past Justin Bieber was a surprise guest, as was Drake another year. Neither were officially listed as attending, and yet there they were. What will happen this year, only time will tell. We’ll have to just watch the broadcast, and find out.
